SPECIAL HAZARD

Overview

We understand that high value and sensitive areas require a different approach to fire protection. Whether you need to protect priceless artwork or valuable computer data, special hazard systems are designed to address fires that involve specific hazards where conventional fire protection methods may not be effective or suitable.

Special hazard fire protection systems are commonly used in environments such as data centers, chemical processing plants, semiconductor manufacturing facilities, museums, art galleries, and areas with high value assets or critical infrastructure where the preservation of property and continuity of operations are crucial.

Where water based fire protection systems are effective at suppressing fires and protecting occupants, special hazard systems are highly effective at suppressing fires involving specialized hazards without causing damage to sensitive equipment or materials.

Our qualified teams design, install and inspect most type of special hazard systems including:

Industrial Dry Chemical Systems

Industrial dry chemical systems help protect many special hazard areas, from paint booths to chemical storage lockers to industrial machinery, your dry chemical system must be designed well and kept in top condition to respond when it is needed.

Our qualified teams are ready to handle all types of industrial dry chemical fire suppression equipment:

Paint Spray Booths
Vehicle Spray Booths
Open-Face Spray Booths
Exhaust Ducts
Gas Stations
Hazardous Material (HazMat) Storage

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) publishes various standards related to special hazard fire protection.  These standards provide guidelines and requirements for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of fire systems in specialized environments when conventional fire protection methods may not be adequate.  Some of the key NFPA standards involved in special hazard fire protection include:

NFPA 12: Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems:

This standard provides requirements for the design, installation, maintenance, and testing of carbon dioxide extinguishing systems used for fire protection in special hazard environments such as power plants, chemical facilities, and industrial processes.

NFPA 750: Standard on Water Mist Fire Protection Systems:

This standard establishes minimum requirements for the design, installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of water mist fire protection systems.  It applies to water mist systems intended to protect against fires in various occupancy types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and special hazard occupancies.

NFPA 16: Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems:

This standard provides requirements for the design, installation, and maintenance of foam-water sprinkler and foam-water spray systems used for fire protection in special hazard applications, such as aircraft hangars, chemical storage areas, and flammable liquid processing areas.

NFPA 17: Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems:

This standard specifies requirements for the design, installation, maintenance, ant testing of dry chemical extinguishing systems used for special hazard fire protection in areas where the use of water-based systems may not be suitable, such as flammable liquid storage areas, paint booths, and electrical equipment rooms.

NFPA 2001: Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems:

This standard addresses the design, installation, maintenance, and testing of clean agent fire extinguishing systems, which use agents like FM-200, Novec 1230, or inert gases to suppress fires in special hazard environments where water-based systems could cause damage to sensitive equipment or materials.
